Who we are looking for
We are looking for friendly, considerate, team players to join our Pottery department. This is a fantastic opportunity, with huge scope for growth over the next 3 years.
The role includes a mixture of teaching, technician work, and day to day organising of bookings/events/members sessions. We will consider
both full & part time hours for the right candidates and could offer less hours to two candidates should you feel you are right for some but not all of this role
The new Pottery studio is part of a larger Maker Space, we are looking for someone to embrace the role of helping to grow the studio to reach its full potential. Candidates must be skilled and passionate potters.Preferred candidates would have some life experience in running their own businesses, understanding what it takes to make a success of something and grow a business as part of a team.
We are looking for someone with drive and passion, that will use their initiative and creative flair to help execute interesting classes and events, generally helping to lift the studio into a thriving pottery classroom & community. It is hugely important to us that the right candidate is friendly, articulate, personable and has a good sense of humour.
Candidates must be happy to work with pupils of various skill levels and adapt their teaching method to make each person feel comfortable & confident.
You will be part of a pottery community, helping it grow and evolve, as the business does, is key; helping to welcome new members, doing inductions and assisting them with any queries along the way.

SKILLS REQUIRED
Organised: Candidates must be punctual and reliable and be able to keep on top of studio schedules and duties.
Creative Flare: Assist us in designing & implementing fun classes in both Throwing & Hand building ensuring people come away with stylised and beautiful ceramics to be proud of.
Marketing savvy: We are looking for someone who will take the initiative to document daily tasks and classes in order to make good content for social media and marketing purposes.
Customer service & relations: Ensure all pupils and members are happy and well looked after, encouraging a good community to grow.
Technician work: We require 2+ years of experience working in a communal pottery studio and the ability to lift and work with large quantities of clay. Our brand new and well equipped studio is set up to make technician work as streamlined as possible with use of an electric pug mill, double clay trap system & large reclaim table.
Technician tasks will include;

Keeping a clean and safe working environment for all with daily cleaning duties.

Prepping clay/reclaiming clay.

Processing pots from classes, trimming, bisque firing, glazing, firing.

Having good knowledge of glazes and the ability to curate a selection of in house glazes in a timely and cost effective manner.

Keeping on top of a tight firing schedule and communicating to customers when their pots are ready to collect; ensuring the collection process runs smoothly and efficiently.

Kiln work; Managing the kiln schedules, loading and unloading.
Various hours available; a mixture of both weekdays and weekends.

Level of wage dependent on experience and hours,
Technician work from £12.60p/h -Teaching from £20 p/h
